Hi Anni. Thanks for posting here. I think this is very interesting. Before I add my thoughts, though, I want to make clear that I am not a massage therapist myself. I don't know the ins and outs of the profession the way others do. Chiropractic -…

Hello Anni, I think your question is a great question and I think a lot of therapists are probably in the same boat as you. I'm trying a DIY method. There's a huge gap in our massage therapy education when it comes to research literacy so the first…

Thank you Laura for the advice. Sorry about the comment approval setting, old habits die hard, like anonymity (even my name is a pseudonym, I'm online shy.) Feel like I have to detrain my brain and start from scratch again. When I browse for CEUs…

I hope Christopher and the other scientists will weigh in on your question. From the standpoint of someone who was also trained in a lot of woo-woo at my massage school, but now has an interest in science-based practice the same as you, all I've be…

First time I've ever seen it on this site for comments to await approval. We tend to let it all hang out on here--which may be why there are so many arguments, I mean discussions!

Thanks Laura. As an aside, I don't think any of us are going to howl at you for using what you prefer, and avoiding that which you'd prefer to avoid. There are some good reasons to avoid medications if possible.

So how does one go about becoming a science based massage therapist?

Just received my license a few months ago after a long delay. Currently doing spa work but I miss working clinically but it seems that majority of places are chiropractic based when it comes to medical massage.

From what I've read so far into the chiropractic profession, I'm still not quite sure how to feel about it.
I did have a poor experience a few years ago where after a lecture on trigger points I signed up for a free checkup. I was expecting a physical but ended up with havin… Continue

The second draft of the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge has been released and is open for comments. DO NOT SIT ON YOUR HANDS, PEOPLE! This stands to have an impact on licensure, certification, school curriculum, continuing education....if you are a massage therapist, it should be of concern to YOU!

Supplemental Research Literature Search for PhD Dissertation

I'm a former chemist, LMT and current PhD student. I'm doing my dissertation for my PhD degree, and I need some advice from experts in the area.

My research topic is the Detoxification and Massage.
My research question is: What is the relation between therapeutic massage and the urine pH value after the intervention?

Does any know about any published or unpublished study about detoxification and massage? I did my online search but is insufficient.

I would really appreciate your guidance.

Finding De-Light

Since there are so many differing opinions on here, and I often find myself (and some of the others here as well) with one foot in both camps, I have decided to share this essay I wrote ten years ago. It first appeared in Spirit in the Smokies: Magazine of New Paradigm Living in the Sept 1999 issue.

I hope you will indulge me; it's quite long, but I think it will give the scientists and crystal carriers alike a good snicker, and laughter has been scientifically proven to make you live longer...… Continue
